I had the pleasure of cohosting this month's Kinfolk workshop on the "Art of Camp Cookng and Grilling" with my dear friend Christian. We couldn't exactly find campgrounds in San Francisco so we brought the camp to us in our friends' scenic backyard in the Mission.
Along with making herbal/floral fire-starters, we split into groups to cook the four dishes we'd be sharing for dinner: grilled kale salad with plums and goat cheese, spiced lentil soup with coconut milk, baked sweet potatoes, and rosemary and garlic salmon. The meal was even more special thanks to our friends at Union Wine Company and to Mariah Zaytoun who surprised us with homemade bourbon s'mores.
As delicious as all of this was, my favorite part of the workshop was the incredibly diverse group who all shared a love for gathering for simple meals with good company. It was humbling to see how easily everyone acted as hosts to one another and relished the evening together.
