You guys! I made a friend.

One of the reasons I was excited to move to Portland (other than it being adorable and having a realistic cost of living) is the creative community. I could go on and on about these people, but the only one that matters right now is Michelle, the lady behind Hummingbird High.

I remember when I first found her work. I was just getting settled into my new apartment and cozying up with my laptop (yes, that's a thing) and daydreaming on Pinterest when I found this pin. There was something about the light and the simplicity. So you can imagine how excited I was when I found that she, too, lived in Portland. And even more excited when she wasn't creeped out by my eagerness to meet and hang out. We eventually got together to take photos of her new kitchen (coming soon on her blog) and some "behind the scenes" shots of her with her beauteous Valentine's cake.

I'm so happy to have a new local friend, especially one with such strong baking/insta game (seriously though, an entire trip captioned with Taylor Swift lyrics? *heart eyes*). Check out Michelle's recipe for this yummy cake here and have happy potato weekend!

PS - Have a thumbprint Valentine à la 2013!
